This summer, it’s all about finding ways to enjoy the season safely. That can include heading to drive-in movie theaters across the state, but for those who don’t want to travel far for their entertainment, they can head to The Alden in McLean instead, as the organization recently announced it will be hosting “Drive-Thru Drama” events in July.

The performances will allow guests to enjoy live theater from the safety o f their cars, a social-distancing-approved format. The shows will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., over two weekends: July 3 to 5, and July 10 to 12. A limited number of timed tickets will be available through The Alden’s website two weeks prior to the show’s opening.

The show will debut the performance of Small Change, a play written and directed by Andrew Scott Zimmer that follows the travel of a $1 bill as it journeys through space and time.

Actors will perform one, cohesive story through short monologues at various stations in The Alden’s parking lot, and audience members will be directed to drive the route from actor to actor.

The Alden is establishing safety precautions into place to adhere to CDC guidelines, requiring all actors to wear personal protective equipment and positioning them 6 feet away from each other, the cars and audience members.
