Support Alexandria’s seniors by mailing positive, uplifting cards

Across the region, those living in senior-only communities cannot have visitors right now. Send them a card to cheer them up through this Alexandria-based project.

Social distancing can get lonely, especially for seniors (a group at higher risk of contracting the coronavirus) who are living apart from their families.

Although many senior living communities are finding ways to reunite families and friends while maintaining safety, there are also many ways Northern Virginians can reach out to seniors in need from afar, including Alexandria’s Cards for Seniors program.

The recently launched project sends handwritten cards to senior living facilities across the Alexandria area, including Sunrise of Alexandria; Woodbine Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center; Brandywine LIving at Alexandria; and Ladray Senior Apartments to brighten seniors’ days. Each sign up is for a group of 10 cards to one facility and those who want to participate can click here.

Need blank cards? Participants can pick up cards at the address that also serves as the drop-off location, at 419 N. W. St., Alexandria. If participants prefer to mail cards directly to the facility, that can be done as well, and mailing addresses are listed under the details of each facility here.
