In times of crisis and uncertainty, music can serve as a small but mighty solace. Celebrities are jumping on board this sentiment, performing live, daily concerts on social media, and quarantine-themed playlists are being published on Spotify regularly.

Local businesses too are finding ways to bring music to your home as the coronavirus pandemic continues, including international franchise School of Rock, which has locations in Alexandria, Ashburn, Haymarket and Vienna. In mid-March, as the threat of COVID-19 led to closures of the company’s hundreds of locations, School of Rock launched a remote program featuring virtual, one-on-one music lessons for its 40,000 students around the world, as well as new students too.

No matter your age or skill level, the trained instructors offer lessons in guitar, drums, bass guitar, keyboard and vocals using the franchise’s signature School of Rock Method, which combines teachings of technique, theory and practice through group rehearsals and live performances. With the remote program, participants will receive one-on-one weekly lessons through secure video technology, and utilize the company’s proprietary Method App, SongFirst Approach and Method Books as teaching tools. All you need is your instrument and a quiet space to practice.
