Winter is upon us here in Northern Virginia.

The first snow of 2020 fell within the second week of the year and its remnants have been sticking around from daily temperatures in the 40s.

But rather than see ice sticking to the road or piled up in parking lots, the Village at Leesburg wants you to see it turned into art. On Saturday, Jan. 18, don’t miss your chance to catch six world-renowned ice carvers compete to create incredible ice sculptures at the sixth annual Winter Ice Festival and Mega Block Ice Carving Competition.

Families can watch as ice carvers turn large, solid blocks of ice into masterpieces, while enjoying local festivities throughout the day. Parents can grab cocktails at participating restaurants while kids skate on the iceless skating rink, chill out in the igloo lounge or snap a picture with Washington Capitals mascot Slapshot.

Ice carvers will start their creations at 9 a.m., but official festivities kick off at 1 p.m. // Village at Leesburg: 1602 Village Market Blvd. SE, Leesburg; 1-5 p.m.; free
