Time to bloom: Ribbon cutting set for Azalea Park in Falls Church

On Saturday, Sept. 14, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and azalea planting will be held at the fully redesigned Azalea Park in Falls Church.

After a year of being closed during the redevelopment, the park now features play equipment for all age groups, adult exercise equipment, seating areas, picnic tables and landscaping, featuring azaleas of varying colors and size.

When the updates to the park were proposed, it was ensured that the space would keep its original character through the preservation of its surrounding trees. This allowed the park to keep a unique shape and implement a carefully planned redesign for new equipment.

While the planning and construction process were underway from 2018 to 2019, the park required enhanced maintenance, and local residents stepped it to volunteer and assist with upkeep of the park’s landscaping through a citizen’s association.

The project was completed by Cunningham Recreation, Custom Park Solutions and Denison Landscaping with a total cost of $176,500.

Following the ribbon-cutting and ceremonial azalea planting, the community will host a picnic for local area residents. // Azalea Park: 2905 Cleave Drive, Falls Church; Sept. 14, 3 p.m.; free
