18th Annual Arlington Police, Fire & Sheriff 9/11 Memorial 5K
Sept. 7, 6 p.m.
Since its inception, the Arlington Police, Fire & Sheriff 9/11 Memorial 5K has raised over $80,000 for 9/11-related charities. The goal is to hit $1 million by 2021. This year, all funds will be donated to the Pentagon Memorial Fund and HEROES. Arlington County 9/11 Remembrance
Sept. 11, 9:30 a.m.
This wreath-laying ceremony and moment of silence will honor the lives that were lost on 9/11. Community members are invited to express their gratitude to those who serve. 9/11 Heroes Run
Sept. 14, 8 a.m.
The 9/11 Heroes Run has one goal: to never forget the sacrifices made on Sept. 11 and the wars since. Run in the 5K or 1-mile fun run to honor veterans, first responders, the military and civilians impacted by 9/11. // Carl Sandburg Middle School: 8428 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria; $20-$35
Ninth Annual Black Tie 007 Benefit
Sept. 14, 7 p.m.-midnight
This spy-themed social event will honor the Wounded Warrior Heroes and WWII Heroes. At the ceremony, honorees are presented with a certificate of appreciation signed by the two state governors. This year’s honorees include Kenneth Burchell, helicopter rescue pilot during 9/11; master trooper Jeffrey L. Brock, 9/11 first responder for Flight 93; Lt. Quentin D. DeMarco, 9/11 first responder and port authority police NY/NJ; and PJ Schrantz, a New York firefighter and 9/11 first responder at the World Trade Center.
