2019 MLK Birthday Celebration
Jan. 19-21
Over three days, Reston’s commemoration will include service projects, a tribute concert by Reston Community’s Orchestra and the Voices of Inspiration program. // Reston Community Center: 2310 Colts Neck Road, Reston; prices vary

We Shall Overcome
Jan. 20, 3 p.m.
The words of Dr. King are interwoven with music created by African-American artists during the Civil Rights movement. The performance was conceived by Damien Sneed. // Hylton Performing Arts Center: 10960 University Blvd., Manassas; $26-$44

MLK Day of Service
Jan. 21, 8:30 a.m.-noon
Volunteer Arlington encourages people to “make it a day on, not a day off” with service and volunteer training for all ages. // Washington-Lee High School: 1301 N. Stafford St., Arlington; Free

27th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration
Jan. 21, 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Leesburg offers a full day of programming to celebrate Dr. King, from service and panel discussions to a march from the Loudoun County Courthouse. // Douglass Community Center: 407 E. Market St., Leesburg; Free

Give Together: A Family Volunteer Day
Jan. 21
Families of elementary school-aged children are encouraged to sign up for projects that support local charitable efforts. // Fairfax; Free
