The Fourth of July is always a big deal in Northern Virginia, but this year carries extra significance. As the nation celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, communities across the region are adding special America250 programming to their traditional parades, concerts and fireworks displays.

Whether you’re looking for a small-town celebration, a history-filled tribute or one of the area’s largest fireworks shows, these events offer plenty of ways to celebrate America’s milestone birthday.

Alexandria

America250 Programs and Historic Celebrations

As George Washington’s hometown, Alexandria is playing a major role in the nation’s 250th anniversary commemoration. Throughout 2026, the city is hosting special exhibitions, tours, public art projects and historical programming highlighting its Revolutionary-era significance. Celebrating its 60th year, Fairfax City’s Independence Day festivities include a hometown celebration, the annual July 4 parade at 10 a.m. through downtown and an evening fireworks display at Fairfax High School.
