A new Lidl is coming to Herndon in the space of the former Kohl’s, and it just announced an opening date of October 29.
The new store is at 2110 Centreville Rd., Herndon, which has been vacant since Kohl’s closed in January. Instead of taking over all 105,700 square feet of the former superstore, Lidl will sublet part of the building to Hobby Lobby and Planet Fitness, The Washington Business Journal reported.
It is not yet clear when Hobby Lobby plans to open; Planet Fitness has the location listed as “opening this fall” on its website.
Lidl’s October 29 grand opening will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:40 a.m. There will be free fresh croissants and coffee at the opening.
The European-based supermarket offers low-cost produce, grocery staples, and specialty items, as well as baked goods. It operates more than 12,000 stores worldwide, with about 17 in Northern Virginia. It also has a headquarters based in Arlington.
