Fairfax City Celebrates Small Business Month with Deals and Donations

Expect discounts at your favorite stores, a shopping fair, and a spotlight on local charities.

May is Small Business Month, and Fairfax City is taking the opportunity to show its local shops some love by hosting a monthlong celebration. Throughout the month, there will be special promotions, spotlights on local charities, and a retail fair on May 31.

“Fairfax City is a vibrant shopping and service destination, and programs like this help local businesses grow by attracting foot traffic, increasing visibility, and deepening their connection to the community,” said Christopher Bruno, CEO and director of Fairfax City Economic Development.

Participating stores will offer deals and discounts throughout the month. These include fitness brands like Fairfax Pilates, OSA Martial Arts, and eXurb Fitness; beauty services like Smily Skin and DIY Scent Studio; and other retailers like Fran’s Cake and Candy Supplies, Paradise Games and Gifts, and Mode on Main by Mara.

Many of these businesses will be on display at a retail fair on Saturday, May 31. The fair will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Old Town Square at 10415 North St., Fairfax. There, shoppers can peruse products from local stores and see demonstrations like a fashion show and Pilates classes.

Plus, businesses in Fairfax City are collecting donations to benefit a different charitable partner each week of Small Business Month. The first two weeks benefited the Chris Atwood Foundation, which provides recovery resources for those impacted by substance abuse, and Britepaths, which provides food, financial assistance, and education for those in need.

The week of May 11 to 17 will support the Humane Society of Fairfax City by collecting cat food and cat beds. After that, the week of May 18 to 24 will support The Lamb Center, a drop-in shelter for those experiencing homelessness.
