6 Grocery Stores That Are New or Coming Soon to Northern Virginia

Find specialty markets, local chains, and national brands coming to the region.

By Michele Kettner January 31, 2025 at 11:41 am

Everyone has a favorite grocery store, whether it’s the one that’s closest to your home or the one that offers the widest selection of products. But that doesn’t mean you can’t try out something new. From specialty markets to national chains, here are the grocery stores that have recently opened or are coming soon to Northern Virginia.

Marufuji Japanese Market

With its grand opening last weekend, shoppers can now find Japanese groceries and cosmetics right in Vienna. Inside the first DMV-area location, shoppers can find regular grocery store products, a deli, a café, and a restaurant, along with beauty and home finds. Marufuji’s opening also marks the first Japanese market in the Tysons area. 8520 Leesburg Pk., Vienna

Amazon Fresh

The new 40,000-square-foot store first welcomed guests in December. Inside the high-tech grocery store, you’ll find grocery carts that scan and weigh your items as you shop, and the Amazon One payment option, which uses palm recognition technology. On the shelves, you’ll be able to shop for your usual national brands and Amazon’s private labels. 5811 Crossroads Center Way, Falls Church

Whole Foods

Expect to find a crowd when Whole Foods opens its new Falls Church location on February 7. The storefront on East Broad Street will replace the closing Whole Foods at Idylwood Plaza, which closes February 3. Customers that visit the over 45,000-square-foot store will receive complimentary coffee and baked goods. The first 300 people in line will receive a custom tote bag and Secret Saver coupon with up to $100 off. 103 E. Broad St., Falls Church

Megamart Supermarket

A fourth Megamart is heading to Northern Virginia in late February or early March, according to Annandale Today. The 12th location of this local chain with a focus on serving the Hispanic community will include a pharmacy, baker and butcher. It also has locations Arlington, Alexandria, and Manassas. 4415 John Marr Dr., Annandale

Lidl

Another Lidl is set to grace Northern Virginia, this time in Herndon. The new store will replace the now closed Kohl’s at 2100 Centreville Rd. The store’s opening date has yet to be announced – but if you can’t wait for the doors to open there are 17 other Lidl locations throughout the region. 2100 Centreville Rd., Herndon

The Fresh Market

Both Reston Station and Falls Church have a Fresh Market in the works. The stores are expected to open within the next three years. Until then, shoppers can visit the North Carolina-based grocery store in Alexandria and Vienna.
