Here’s Where You Can Find Senior Discounts

Whether you need to stock up on craft supplies or crave pancakes, these spots offer deals and discounts for the more-mature crowd.

President Ronald Reagan first proclaimed August 21 as National Senior Citizens Day in 1988 as a time to recognize and appreciate the value and contributions that older people provide families and society. Here are just a few of the many senior discounts offered in NoVA.

Wolf Trap

Wolf Trap offers 50 percent off one ticket discount for seniors who are 65 and older. The discounted tickets are sold at the box office beginning 30 minutes before a performance, subject to availability. Discounts for the Filene Center are only for in-house seats. Performing on August 21 is indie folk music vocalist, whistler, and songwriter Andrew Bird. 1551 Trap Rd., Vienna

Arlington Parks and Recreation

Grab a 55+ Pass for access to free and discounted programs and classes. There are options for multiple interests, including line dancing, movie matinees, playground cleanups, and more. The program is celebrating 70 years this year. Arlington

Virginia State Parks

For $40, seniors ages 62 and older can purchase a “Senior Naturally Yours Passport,” which includes parking and admission (up to four individuals) for one year. Note: proof of age may be requested. Multiple locations

Amtrak

Seniors who are 65 and older can explore the U.S. on Amtrak and get a 10 percent discount on most rail fares. There are some restrictions, including not combining the discount with any additional discount offers. Proof of age will be necessary to buy tickets and board trains.
