While Virginia won’t be offering its tax-free weekend like it usually does the first weekend of August, that doesn’t mean you can’t find an equivalent deal. Some businesses in Old Town Alexandria plan to offer a 6 percent discount Friday, August 4, through Sunday, August 6.
Charlotte Hall, managing director of the OId Town Business Association, said many of the group’s members will participate.
In lieu of the state tax typically offered on back-to-school clothing and other items, the following boutiques will offer the 6 percent discount:
- 529 Kids Consign
- Bishop Boutique
- Bloomers
- Mint Condition
- Monday’s Child
- Ms. Moxie’s Moon Shop
- Pacers Running
- Penny Post
- Red Barn Mercantile
- She’s Unique
- Ten Thousand Villages
- The Art League
- The Hive
- The Shoe Hive
- Twist Boutique
- Vintage Mirage
- Wild Gardenia Boutique
- Yellow Jacket
Hall said the association will continue to update the list of participating businesses on its website through August 1. To see the full list, go to the events tab on the Old Town Business Association website.
Virginia’s sales tax holiday ended July 1, according to the Virginia Department of Taxation. For the tax-free weekend to have continued, legislative action, essentially an amendment to the state budget, would have been needed.
