Fairfax Corner will be getting another retail building, as well as a new kind of IKEA store.
The developer, Peterson Cos., announced that it’ll break ground next month on a two-story, 36,000-square-foot building next to Coastal Flats.
The building will be home to several new merchants, as well as a relocated Arhaus outlet, which will have an open-air second-floor showroom for outdoor furniture, the developers said.
In addition, IKEA this summer will open a 4,458-square-foot “plan-and-order” location in Fairfax Corner, in which customers can meet with Ikea workers to plan their purchases, then order items for pickup at the location later.
IKEA plans a similar store in Pentagon City. There’s already a traditional large-format Ikea store in Woodbridge, as well as another in College Park, Maryland.
The Fairfax Corner development already includes more than 50 businesses and medical offices, including locations for REI, P.F. Chang’s, and Ruth’s Chris Steak House. It also houses a Cinemark movie theater.
A 12-story, 228-unit residential building will open this summer.
