Ulla Johnson Jumpsuits and Veronica Beard Blazers: What’s Hot at Alexandria’s Favorite Consignment Shop

Mint Condition provides residents with high-fashion consignment options as they head back into the office.

Family owned and operated women’s designer consignment boutique Mint Condition has managed to do well during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic—perhaps because many of us are spending our downtime doing extensive closet cleanouts!

“Business has been good,” said co-owner Megan Podolsky. “We never shut down, but we stayed safe doing things like more deliveries and curbside pickups.”

Podolsky said customers seem to be ready to shop and wear dresses again. They are riding high from summer and hope to carry that momentum into the fall.

Podolsky’s sister-in-law Katie Coslov bought the shop in 2019 from its original owner. The two had always worked in the fashion and retail area, with Podolsky owning 529 Kids Consign in Alexandria and the two also own the Mint Collective boutique in town as well. Coslov worked for luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Podolsky was an assistant buyer in merchandising for Calvin Klein at one point.

While many would think working with family could be tough, Podolsky and Coslov have created a warm and welcoming environment together. “We’re 10 years apart in age, but have the same goals in life,” Podolsky said. “We’re moms first and business owners second.”

The two would often bring their children to work when they were younger, with the littlest ones enjoying games of hide-and-seek in the clothing racks.

“We’re both on the same page for the vision of the company,” Podolsky added. The warmth and coziness is definitely evident, especially given Coslov grew up in Texas and Podolsky in Pittsburgh. The Southern and Midwestern hospitality shined through our phone call.

While the sisters-in-law inherited the name, they still try to uphold it, making sure everything they sell is truly in “mint condition.”

As far as recent fun finds, Podolsky was eager to share that she had recently snagged an Ulla Johnson jumpsuit and some “fabulous” Veronica Beard blazers.

“We also had some beautiful Chanel bags that sold immediately,” she said. “People haven’t been spending money and now want to buy investment pieces.”

Given that Mint Condition is a consignment shop, their clothing sizes do vary. The shop accepts anywhere from a size 0 to XS to a 3XL. “There is a need in Old Town for plus size clothing, which is something we’re aware and conscious of,” Podolsky said. “We hope to fill that void.”

As far as its future plans, Mint Condition hopes to expand its online presence. “We’re constantly upping the game to bring Old Town the best consignment has to offer,” Podolsky said.

More information on Mint Condition can be found here. If you’re interested in what type of clothing the store offers, labels that they accept and “love” include: Lilly Pulitzer (2018 and newer), Dolce & Gabbanna, Elizabeth & James, Alexander McQueen, Rodarte, Lululemon, and more.

Recent uploads on their Instagram page (@shopmintcondition) include a NWT Tory Burch dress, Jimmy Choo animal print heels, a Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress, and an Adriana Papell dress perfect for work.
