In Too Glam to Give a Damn, the personal stylist, costume designer and creative director behind Lindsey Evans Studio–who’s pivoting to writing and virtual styling this year–takes you behind the scenes of all things glam. Here, she shares her inspiration for this latest project and gives fashion tips for fall and beyond.
What was the inspiration for the podcast?
“COVID gave me a lot of time to think about how to expand my creative norms. Out of sheer boredom, I started dressing up like the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills every Wednesday night; when the show aired as I realized I had a lot of the same clothes as the gals in the show. I called it the ‘Real Housewives of Quarantine’ and the whole thing kept evolving into wigs, props and dance routines. The response was pretty wild. People loved it and I had a lot of fun with it. Prior to that, I put out an Instagram Stories ‘Burn Book’–my version of E!’s show Fashion Police–where I gave my ruthless opinions on red carpet looks and street style. Upon these two worlds colliding I realized I was already sharing my opinions in a way, so the podcast became a natural next step for me.”
What trends are you most excited about?
“I’m loving modern color blocking and throwing in a fresh animal print like leopard or zebra. I love that sneakers work with trousers. I’m also loving a fur purse; it’s so fun and now is the time to wear a teddy bear as an emotional support handbag. I have an inkling this is going to be a decade all about comfort and our ways of dressing are only moving toward becoming increasingly casual. But elevated casual.”
What is your fall/winter fashion advice?
“I recommend investing in a statement coat or two–I love the brand Apparis for their colorful faux furs. I’m also seeing lots of cozy knits for fall/winter as well as colored vegan leather bottoms in autumnal tones. On the real, I don’t think anyone wants to wear a waistline anymore, so with that I’d say matching sets of sweatsuits during the week and then a fun dressier look on the weekend. I think going forward there is going to be a lot more play with makeup and accessories–like headbands and statement earrings–since there’s so much focus on our faces with social media and Zoom.”
