“A proper wardrobe is an amazing source of self-confidence that a lot of women neglect or feel like they don’t deserve. And we’re here to tell them that they do.”
That’s how stylist Lani Inlander of Real Life Style explains her reasoning for Wear Your Power, an online course dedicated to helping mothers refresh their wardrobe and fashion goals after maternity leave. Whether a mom had a baby six weeks or six years ago, the four-week course is designed to mitigate the frustration associated with refinding the correct fit of clothes, and help moms understand their personal styles.
Inlander debuted the program a few years ago in partnership with Mindful Return—a local company that helps new moms and dads navigate working parenthood—and is launching an updated version on Monday, Jan. 27.
“The first time we did it, it was a one-week, adapted corporate course, but we realized that was not enough,” says Inlander. “The women who took it wanted more, they wanted the full version of what I do with my clients but at a lower cost, so we redesigned the course.”

Those first few weeks after you have your first child can be a dream. The baby still sleeps. You are in awe of what your body can and has just done. And all anyone expects of you is to make sure the little angel in your arms eats, sleeps and has a diaper changed. Best of all, you can do all of this in your pajamas. Through the new version of Wear Your Power, consisting of two lessons per week, women will learn how to edit their own closet, create a style report, designate a “power color” that makes them feel their best and more, with Inlander virtually guiding them throughout the entire process.
The biweekly lessons include activities where clients answer questions like, “How do you feel when you look at your closet in the morning?” or “What item of clothing that you own gets you the most compliments?” Plus, clients post pictures of themselves in specific outfits to get advice from Inlander, as well as the other participating mothers.
“It’s like going to mommy-and-me classes where you can get help from other mothers, but this time it’s with clothing,” Inlander explains.
At the end of the four-week session, each woman will have five completely put-together outfits for the workday, which, according to Inlander, can go a long way.
“When you first go back to work, it is so daunting in every way,” says Inlander. “From how you’re going to handle new tasks to imagining what your co-workers think of your return, the last thing you want to deal with is your wardrobe. But that’s the thing that is going to make you feel the most confident and powerful. I want women to realize their wardrobe is a major tool in their toolbox of self-care and they should prioritize it.”
