As winter sets in, our skin often feels the brunt of the cold, leading to dryness and irritation. To help combat these seasonal challenges, Glowbar CEO Rachel Liverman shares her top tips for maintaining hydrated and healthy skin all winter long.
What are some of the main issues people face with their skin in the winter months?
Winter can really take a toll on your skin! As the cold weather rolls in, many people notice their skin becomes dry and irritated. As winter approaches, some clients with skin conditions such as eczema and rosacea experience worsening symptoms. Adjusting your skin care routine as the seasons change is crucial to keep your skin feeling hydrated and healthy.
What are your top tips to people for protecting their skin in the winter months?
I always recommend a simple skin care routine. For the winter months, opt for a creamy cleanser and scale back on toning to once a day and exfoliation to once a week or less. Overuse can sometimes lead to irritation or dryness but pay attention to how your skin responds and adjust as you see fit.
Moisturizer is the most important part of your entire routine. Swap out the lighter moisturizer you used in the summer for something thicker with ingredients like hyaluronic acid.
And of course, you can’t forget SPF! Everyone should be applying sunscreen at the end of their skin care routine to protect their skin, even in the winter. Many people think sunscreen isn’t necessary during the shorter winter days, but that is not true. UV protection is needed year-round. And it’s an extra moisture layer.
What is your personal winter weather skin care routine? We’d love to know!
Time is our greatest asset, and unless you genuinely enjoy spending time in your bathroom at night, I recommend and personally use a five-step skin care routine. Cleanse, tone, treat, moisture, and SPF — that’s it! I make sure to focus on keeping my skin as hydrated as possible and using ingredients with antioxidants that keep my skin glowing and healthy year-round.
If you could recommend just one or two products for winter, what would they be?
My favorite serum, iS Clinical Hydra-Cool Serum, has 25 percent hyaluronic acid. So, this serum should give you the most noticeable boost of hydration, which is why it’s the one I always recommend. For sunscreen, I love the EltaMD Skincare UV Broad-Spectrum SPF 46. This product contains broad-spectrum protection from aging with a beautiful light and dewy finish.
