TSALT (“the t is silent like tsunami”) is nestled in a large two-story building in Old Town, just off of bustling King Street. With giant windows surrounding the entire store, the atmosphere is light and airy with shades of cream and off-white (chandeliers, couches, rugs and racks) allowing the clothes to stand out.
The concept is one that is truly innovative for this area. The boutique offers an in-house TSALT line that can be altered free of charge upon purchase, as well as custom pieces created in the studio upstairs. “My own personal line [embodies] simple, classic elegance that is transitional. I purposely choose muted, natural colors that are flattering to women as they get older,” says designer and owner Tamara Saltonstall. Complementary lines are also offered such as M.i.h and Frame denim, Lauren Moshi tees, CalaXini shoes and Monserat de Lucca sign language necklaces. Beauty-lovers will also appreciate the Molinard and Tokyomilk Dark fragrances. This fall the boutique plans to add leather leggings and jackets into the inventory, as well as a TSALT fur line featuring the colors of the season.
While the target customer is between 35-55 years old, many younger women will appreciate the minimalist nature of the products offered. Custom pieces can range from $700-$1,500 (booked by appointment only), with most items in the store falling under $400. // 106 N. Saint Asaph St., Alexandria; 703-664-0585
