American Airlines will suspend six North American routes because of rising fuel prices amid the war in Iran, KTLA reported. One of those routes is a nonstop flight between Dulles International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport.
The suspensions are not permanent; they’ll be in place between August 5 and October 5. Travelers impacted will be offered alternate arrangements or a refund.
This suspension comes only months after American launched the IAD–LAX flights. The airline announced plans for the new route in January to kick off in April, The Washington Business Journal reported.
Travelers still have options to get to LA from DC. American Airlines still offers a route to LAX from nearby Reagan National Airport, and United Airlines offers a route to LAX from Dulles.
In addition to Dulles, American is temporarily cutting flights to LAX from Cleveland, Ontario, and Charlotte. It’s also suspending service between Charlotte and Ontario and Sacramento.
According to Department of Transportation data reported by the New York Post, these routes carried over 1.4 million round trip passengers last year.
