Arlington High School Could Move to Amazon HQ2

The school board will hold a final vote on the plan later this month.

Arlington school leaders are finalizing a deal that will move the Arlington Community High School to Amazon’s HQ2 campus. The move will take effect in the 2026–2027 school year.

In a meeting on May 28, the school board discussed plans to sign a 30-year lease with Amazon for about 30,000 square feet of space in the Pentagon City HQ2 building. The space has been “constructed to meet the educational specifications required for this alternative high school program,” a school board presentation said.

Arlington Community High School will use the space rent-free and only be responsible for routine maintenance and repairs. Those costs are estimated at approximately $25,000 per year.

The school will be located at 1450 Eads St. S., Ste. 55, on floors one and four. The lease also includes 50 staff parking spaces, including 30 reserved spaces. The school will have a separate entrance from the rest of HQ2.

Arlington Community is a nontraditional school that serves about 300 students. It offers both day and evening classes for students aged 16 and older, many of whom are in school while working full- or part-time.

The school was initially going to be located in Amazon’s PenPlace, the planned second phase of Amazon’s HQ2. But when PenPlace was put on hold, Amazon announced it would find space for the school in the existing complex, ARLNow reported.

The school board will make a final vote on the deal on June 18.
