Haymarket’s Sarah Everhardt will soon hit the world stage. She will compete in the ISU Figure Skating World Championships in place of Olympic gold medalist Alysa Liu, who withdrew. The competition runs March 24 to 29 in Prague.
The 19-year-old skater is a graduate of Battlefield High School. She practices at SkateQuest in Reston with coaches Tatyana Malinina and Roman Skornyakov, parents of Ilia Malinin.
Liu, who won gold at the Milan Olympics, was slated to compete at the championships. She posted on Instagram stories after withdrawing, saying, “There’s been a lot of exciting things happening since my return from Milan, so I’m taking some time for that. I will be cheering everyone on from afar, see y’all next season!”
Everhardt was the second alternative for the world championships after placing fifth at the U.S. Championships in January. The first alternative, Bradie Tennell, declined to compete, InsideNoVA reported.
This will be Everhardt’s first time at the world championships. She has medaled in past national championships, placing third in 2025 and fourth in 2024.
Several other Team USA athletes will compete in the world championships, including Ilia Malinin, Amber Glenn, Isabeau Levito, and ice dancing pair Madison Chock and Evan Bates.
