Jared Llamado killed one woman and stabbed three others in a road rage incident on I-495. He also killed his own dog, according to Virginia State Police. Police fatally shot Llamado on the scene.
Llamado, 32, of McLean, was a State Department employee in a technology role, WTOP reported.
Police shared in an update Tuesday that Llamado did not know the victims — including Michele Adams, 39, who died from her injuries — prior to the incident.
Virginia State Police were called to I-495 southbound, at exit 52 near Annandale, around 1:20 p.m. Sunday, March 1, for a road rage incident. Preliminary findings show the incident happened after a crash.
The trooper found a male suspect, later identified as Llamado, carrying a knife. When the suspect confronted the trooper with the knife, the trooper shot the suspect in self-defense, according to VSP. Llamado was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and was pronounced dead.
Officers also found three other stabbing victims at the scene — women aged 36, 37, and 40. Llamado’s dog was also found dead.
Crash Witnesses Were “Terrified”
Two witnesses, Sarah Kober and her daughter Jennifer Paxton, told NBC4 Washington that Llamado sideswiped their car in his SUV.
They said Llamado kept driving and appeared focused on a car ahead of them. They then pulled over behind his car and fled when they saw him stab the four women.
“I didn’t know if he was going to come back at us. We did not know and we were terrified,” Kober told NBC4. “That lady needed help and we ran because we didn’t know what else to do.”
The trooper involved in the incident is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The incident closed down southbound lanes of I-495 between Gallows Road and Little River Turnpike for several hours Sunday.
