NoVA Buc-ee’s lovers may soon have something to celebrate. An application to build one of the supersized gas stations to the area near I-95 and Courthouse Road in Stafford is in progress.
Based in Texas, Buc-ee’s travel centers have developed a cult-like following for their large stores, ready-made food like “beaver nuggets,” and beaver mascot. The June grand opening of the first Virginia location in Rockingham County drew huge crowds of enthusiastic visitors.
The proposed new Stafford Buc-ee’s development would encompass around 35 acres of space on a currently vacant lot. It would include 833 parking spaces and 120 fuel pumps, and the store itself would span 74,000 square feet.
The team behind the proposed new Buc-ee’s held a community information session this week to hear input from area residents. Some expressed concern over the potential traffic impact, noise levels, safety, and impact on property values, WUSA9 reported.
A public hearing with the Stafford County planning commission will take place on October 29. If the commission recommends the plan, it will then go to the full board of supervisors for another public hearing and a final vote.
If approved, this would become the third Buc-ee’s in Virginia; the second is planned to open in 2027 in New Kent, The Washington Business Journal reported. The Stafford location would be the northernmost location in the state.
