Attention Virginia Taxpayers: You May Be Eligible for a Rebate

Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced that eligible taxpayers will receive rebates of up to $200.

By Debbie Williams September 25, 2025 at 10:25 am

There’s good news for some Virginia residents. Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced that eligible taxpayers will receive rebates this fall. The rebates will be up to $200 for those who filed individually and up to $400 for joint filers.

“Virginia’s strong job growth, bolstered by business investment commitments of $140 billion has driven a total of $10 billion in surplus revenue and enabled a record $9 billion in tax relief,” Youngkin said. “This fall’s tax rebate reflects a simple truth: It’s your money, not the government’s. We have made record investments supporting teachers and students, law enforcement, and Virginians facing behavioral health crises, while also lowering costs for individuals, families, veterans and small businesses.”

To be eligible, taxpayers must have incurred tax liability in 2024 and filed by November 3, 2025. You can visit tax.virginia.gov/rebate and check whether you’re eligible for a rebate.

Eligible taxpayers who filed their state taxes prior to July 1 will be sent rebates by October 15. If you received a state tax refund by direct deposit, you should expect to receive the rebate deposited in the same account. All other eligible taxpayers will receive their rebate by paper check in the mail.

If you owe Virginia or another state or local agency taxes, the state will use the tax rebate to cover that debt. You will then receive the remainder of the rebate, along with contact information for the agency that was owed.

If you owe more than the amount of the rebate, Virginia will send a letter explaining the use of the rebate toward the debt, as well as contact information for the agency that was owed.
