Fairfax County Launches ‘Safe July’ Program to Catch Impaired Drivers

The initiative includes increased DWI enforcement and patrols in high-risk areas.

By Debbie Williams July 7, 2025 at 10:39 am

As part of its 2025 summer crime prevention initiative, FCPD has launched “Safe July.” The campaign — the second wave of the department’s seasonal efforts — is focused on reducing impaired driving.

“As celebrations and summer gatherings increase over the holiday period, the safety of our roads remains a top priority,” FCPD says.

The county’s Safe July campaign includes:

  • Enhanced DWI Enforcement: Officers from all eight district stations are working alongside the driving while intoxicated (DWI) Enforcement Squad to increase efforts. FCPD is strategically deploying officers to areas identified as high-risk for impaired driving incidents.
  • Data-Informed Deployment: FCPS will position patrol and traffic units in locations and during times that were identified through impaired driving trend analysis. This helps ensure that officers are located where they can have the most impact.
  • Community Awareness: FCPD is conducting community outreach efforts and engaging through social media. The department is reminding drivers of the dangers and consequences of impaired driving. FCPS is also encouraging residents to plan ahead for a safe ride home.

Other FCPD road safety programs include the ongoing Road Shark campaign. For updates about the department’s crime prevention efforts, you can follow FCPD on X, Facebook, and Instagram at @FairfaxCountyPD.
