Fairfax County police have confirmed that a body found in a Tysons pond is Kyle Coleman. The 19-year-old went missing after a car crash near the pond on Friday, June 6.
According to the Fairfax County Police Department, officers responded to the crash site at Galleria Drive and Tysons Boulevard after a 911 activation call from an iPhone was made at 11:16 p.m. When they arrived, Coleman’s car was unoccupied.
His parents, Cimmerian and Keith Coleman, told NBC4 that their son had just completed his freshman year at Morehouse College and went out with friends Friday night. His phone, car keys, and a pair of slides were left inside the car.
Witnesses told officers they saw an individual flee from the vehicle. Officers searched the vehicle and the surrounding area and did not locate Coleman.
During a further search of the area on June 10, FCPD’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit located Coleman’s body. He was deceased and submerged in a nearby retention pond surrounded by thick brush. After reviewing surveillance footage of Coleman leaving the crash scene, detectives were able to confirm that no one else was involved in the crash.
