Construction on the upcoming Kalahari Resort in Spotsylvania is underway. And Gov. Glenn Youngkin visited the site yesterday for a ceremonial steel signing.
Workers broke ground in 2023 on the $900 million, 1.38 million-square-foot project located in Spotsylvania just off I-95 (near the Dominion Raceway). Its projected opening date is November 2026.
Once open, the resort will have 907 guest rooms, a 175,000-square-foot indoor water park (the largest in Virginia), a 10-acre outdoor water park, and an adventure park. It will also have restaurants, retail space, and entertainment venues.

“This moment is more than a construction milestone — it’s a testament to the collaborative spirit and momentum behind this project,” said Todd Nelson, founder and CEO of Kalahari Resorts. “We’re building more than a resort; we’re building a destination that will energize the region and bring unforgettable experiences to families and travelers from across the country.”
During the steel signing ceremony, Youngkin joined legislators and members of the business community to announce that his administration has achieved more than $100 billion in committed capital investments in Virginia.
“Virginia isn’t just competing to win, Virginia is winning,” Youngkin said. “Very soon, families will gather right here at Kalahari Resorts to create priceless memories and share unforgettable moments. Together, we are making Virginia the best place to live, work, and raise a family.”
This resort is expected to generate hundreds of construction jobs, as well as more than 1,400 hospitality, culinary, retail, and operations jobs.
