Family-owned collectible store Gaming Giant in Fairfax was burglarized by a man disguised as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man the night of Friday, March 14. Police arrested a suspect on March 19.
City of Fairfax Police arrived to the store the morning of March 15. An investigation revealed that a man dressed in a Spider-Man costume broke into the business and stole approximately $10,000 of merchandise, according to a news release.
The suspect broke down the front door and took “multiple graded slabs as well as sealed Pokémon product,” the shop shared in a Facebook post.
Police later identified the suspect as 20-year-old Joel Brown from Silver Spring, Maryland.
Brown was arrested on a warrant and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. He was charged with burglary and later released on an unsecure bond.
The owner of Gaming Giant told Fox 5 Washington DC that he was upset and felt violated from the burglary.
According to Fox 5, Brown visited the establishment before the burglary to inquire about rare Dragon Ball, Pokémon, and One Piece cards in a display case.
