Keep your hands off the political signs. Loudoun County urges people to be civic and not tamper, destroy, or remove campaign and political signs, with the November 5 presidential election coming up in under two weeks.
Removing campaign signs is considered theft, and the signs you see on private property are legally protected speech.
Loudoun County issued a news release Wednesday that asked people to report signs that may be inappropriately located.
“Loudoun County has received reports of signs that may be unsafe for people to touch,” the release said.
It came after media reports that a Leesburg homeowner installed an alarm near a sign that some thought was a booby trap because there were tripwires on the property’s trees.
The county said people who live in homeowners association communities should report violations to their HOAs.
Signs on public property that may be in violation can be reported online or by phone, the county said.
- Submit an online inquiry through the Loudoun Express Request system.
- Call Loudoun County Zoning Enforcement at 703-777-0103.
Questions about signs in incorporated towns should be directed to the individual town offices in Hamilton, Hillsboro, Leesburg, Lovettsville, Middleburg, Purcellville, or Round Hill.
Early voting in the November 5 election is underway across NoVA.
