Dominion Camera Set to Close in Falls Church

The shop has been open more than 50 years on West Broad Street.

A small business institution in Falls Church is closing its doors after more than a half-century of helping people preserve their memories.

Dominion Camera, at 112 W. Broad Street, is closing for good, the store announced on its Facebook page.

“Our final day open for business is approaching soon. We hope you can stop by one more time before we close forever at the end of the day on Saturday, September 7,” the post said.

The store has been in that location since 1971, having begun in Arlington two years prior to that. Longtime owner Tony Socarras sold the shop in 2014 to Mohsen Jalali and Gary Henry, who combined operations with Ace Photo, in Ashburn. That location at 44710 Cape Ct., Ste. 122, will remain open.

The shop announced in June that it would close in early September, citing changes in “the business climate and partnership arrangements.”

The owners thanked “all our wonderful customers,” noting that they’d stayed loyal to the shop through more than five decades, including the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the closure of so many businesses.

Dominion Camera will accept film dropoffs through September 3 for pickup by September 7.

“We hope you stop by the store to take advantage of some of the store closing savings and to say goodbye to some of the best staff and customer-focused people you will ever meet,” a Facebook post said.
