Kings Dominion won’t be open year-round after December. The move by the theme park comes a year after it started the practice.
Kings Dominion will be closed after its WinterFest celebration ends on December 31. It will reopen on weekends, beginning on March 23, 2024.
“This change was driven by many factors and enables us to maintain our commitment to delivering outstanding experiences for our guests,” said Geoff Zindren, the park’s director of communications, in a statement.
The park will then be open every day in April for people on spring break, then weekends only through May 24 before the summer season starts.
Cedar Fair, the owner of the Doswell park, also plans to end year-round operations at Carowinds in North Carolina and Great America in California.
When it made its announcement to go year-round back in 2022, Bridgette Bywater, vice president and general manager, said “Kings Dominion will be the cure for cabin fever in 2023. We’ve always wanted to find a way to extend our season to all 12 months, and now families and season pass holders won’t have to wait until the spring for their favorite rides or their first taste of funnel cake.”
