The Fairfax County Park Authority will host a rec center open house on Wednesday, September 27, with free admission to all park authority rec centers.
While at the open house, visitors can tour the facilities and meet staff, take part in sample classes and health and wellness demonstrations, and enjoy family-friendly activities and games like arts and crafts and a scavenger hunt.
There are eight rec centers currently in operation in Fairfax County. Each facility will have its own programming.
- At Audrey Moore Rec Center in Annandale, there will be swim evaluations and class recommendations, as well as drop-in fitness classes.
- At Cub Run Rec Center in Chantilly, there will be free in-body assessments, the chance to meet with a personal trainer, and drop-in classes: Strength Circuit at 5:30 p.m. and Yoga at 6 p.m.
- At Franconia Rec Center, there will be a playroom for kids 5 and younger, free in-body assessments, and drop in fitness classes.
- At George Washington Rec Center in Alexandria, you can check out the free pool toys and sample a water exercise class.
- At Oak Marr Rec Center in Oakton, there will be swim evaluations, then yoga, high fitness, Bombay jam, and Zumba classes.
- At the Providence Rec Center in Falls Church, there will be a music and art show, a 3D printing demonstration, and a martial arts presentation.
- At South Run Rec Center in Springfield, five drop-in classes will be free, starting at 5 p.m., including Core and Balance and Cardio Sculpt.
- At Spring Hill Rec Center in McLean, demonstrations will include martial arts, and there will be swim evaluations.
Admission is free all day (rec centers are open 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays), but special activities are scheduled between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
If visitors want to join the rec centers after the event, they can leave with a seven-day free trial membership or a 30-day membership for $30.
Memberships have a 15 percent discount during September, for $569 for adults and $529 for seniors and youth. Annual memberships are typically $669 for one adult and $662 for seniors and youth. There are no residency restrictions on annual memberships.
Mount Vernon Rec Center closed in January for renovations and will reopen in 2025.
