A Woodbridge woman was found guilty last week of first-degree murder nearly six years after a shooting in the parking lot of a Manassas Food Lion left a 24-year-old man dead.
Roberta Brandon, 29, will be sentenced in December for the November 29, 2016, shooting death of Cordrey Jackson, who police said was killed after becoming involved in a child custody dispute involving Brandon and another man. All three individuals knew one another, police said.
According to the 2016 police report, officers arrived on scene at approximately 7:30 p.m. to discover Jackson suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. After the altercation in the parking lot, Jackson reportedly stumbled into the store before collapsing in the produce section. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he later died of his wounds.
A police investigation determined it was Brandon who discharged the weapon. She reportedly drove off after firing the shots, but was taken into custody the following day in Capitol Heights, Maryland.
In addition to the murder charge, Brandon was convicted of the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. She faces a maximum of life in prison.
“There is no place in our community for gun violence,” Amy Ashworth, the Prince William County commonwealth’s attorney, said in a press release. “My office is committed to doing all in our power to make Prince William County safer by aggressively prosecuting violent criminals.”
