The scorching hot U.S. Women’s National Team announced it will be kicking off its fall slate with two games against powerhouse Nigeria, with the second matchup scheduled in Washington.
The clash, which is scheduled for Sept. 6 at Audi Field, the home of D.C. United, marks the first time the Women’s National Team will visit Audi Field following the stadium’s summer 2018 opening. From 1995 to 2017, the national squad played 10 games in the nation’s capital, all of which were hosted at the soon-to-be demolished RFK Stadium.
The two matches — the other will be played Sept. 3 in Kansas City — are also the first homecoming games for the USWNT since they cemented their place in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, to be played in Australia and New Zealand, with a 5-0 victory on July 7 over Jamaica in the CONCACAF Women’s Championship.
“I’m just excited to play two matches against Nigeria,” head coach Vlatko Andonovski said in a team announcement. “They have some very talented players who will present a lot of different problems for us to solve on both sides of the ball,” said Andonovski. “I’ve visited [Audi Field] several times for NWSL games and [it] is also a fantastic venue for our team to play in front of our home fans.”
Tickets for the Sept. 6 clash with Nigeria, which has qualified for each of the eight previous FIFA Women’s World Cups, will begin with presales on July 25. Public sales, meanwhile, will open Aug. 1. The game will be televised at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Learn more at ussoccer.com.
