A DC firefighter was arrested in Fairfax County on charges of armed robbery stemming from an incident on May 18.
Maryland resident Christopher Potts, 27, was taken into custody on July 8 by Fairfax County Police. Authorities say Potts allegedly held a victim at gunpoint and demanded their property in the May 18 incident, according to a FOX 5 report.
The incident, which occurred at the 11000 block of Cavalier Landing Court off of Lee Highway, is not believed to be a random attack. Police told FOX that Potts and the victim knew one another prior to the alleged robbery and were involved in an ongoing dispute.
D.C. Fire and EMS Public Information Officer Vito Maggiolo confirmed the fire department where Potts works, Engine 18 on Capitol Hill, is looking into the matter.
“The Department is aware of the arrest of Christopher Potts on July 8, 2022, a Firefighter EMT employed by the Department,” Maggiolo told FOX 5. “He is currently on administrative leave. The DC Fire and EMS Department does not condone or tolerate illegal behavior.”
The charges, which include the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, comprise the second of two ongoing cases against Potts.
Potts was previously taken into custody following a March 16 incident in Montgomery County, Maryland, and charged with obstructing and hindering after a police chase in which Potts allegedly drove in excess of 100 mph in a 35 mph zone, according to WUSA9.
The car Potts was driving was uninsured, unregistered, and contained a registration for a different vehicle, the report said. Potts was also arrested in 2019 in Prince George’s County for driving erratically while carrying a suspended license, WUSA9 reported.
