Metro announced last week that lower-priced Metrorail and Metrobus monthly passes will be available beginning July 1. This decision will provide more flexibility and value to those who may no longer be commuting five days a week.
“As gas prices remain high and people continue to increase travel and commute to work more often, lowering the price of unlimited passes makes Metrorail and Metrobus an even more attractive option for work and pleasure travel throughout the region,” Metro Board Chair Paul C. Smedberg says.
Concurrently, all customers traveling on Metrorail after 9:30 p.m. on weekdays can also benefit from a flat fare of $2 per one-way trip starting June 27. According to Smedberg, these flat fares are “providing a welcome savings to service workers and those using Metro to get to and from nightlife attractions across the region.”
The unlimited pass prices differ based on distance traveled and on customers taking 32 trips per month as opposed to the previous 36 trips per month, but even so, customers could be saving up to $24 a month. Any additional trips taken beyond 32 will also be free to unlimited pass holders.
While flat Metrorail fares of $2 per one-way trip were already in effect on weekends, the flat fare for weeknights has now been approved as part of Metro’s Fiscal Year 2023 budget.
Passes can be purchased online, at fare vending machines, and at participating retail locations across the region.
