Reston police officers arrested Friday night the man suspected of several crimes and burglaries in Reston since last September.
On September 4 and October 5 of last year, the owners of Matsutake Sushi and Sake Bar reported damage to the windows of their restaurant overnight. On March 30 of this year, Gregorio’s Trattoria and Bobby’s Bagel Café reported break-ins, and stolen merchandise and cash. After further investigation, Reston police detectives also learned the suspect had stolen from a Glory Days Grill nearby.
After reviewing surveillance footage from the restaurants, detectives put together a profile of the suspect.
While conducting a surveillance operation on April 15 related to the burglaries, a detective saw the suspect trespassing on private property near the North Point Village Shopping Center in Reston. After the suspect fled from detectives, officers found him walking along Reston Parkway and took him into custody.
Upon his arrest, the officers found him in possession of tools used for burglaries, including gloves, a multi-tool, an Allen-wrench set, a screwdriver, and a knife. A search of a nearby home found stolen property associated with the burglaries.
Giovanni Lamont Dill, 22, is charged with possession of burglarious tools, three counts of burglary, two counts of destruction of property, and one count of trespassing. Dill is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
Reston police detectives are continuing to investigate the possibility of other burglaries committed by Dill.
“Our detectives recognized a pattern in this case and worked diligently with community members and business partners to identify a suspect,” said Captain Frederick Chambers in a statement. “This is a wonderful example of our investigatory team working side by side with our community members and businesses to improve public safety.”
