A $40,000 reward will be given to anyone who offers information that leads to the arrest of an Alexandria man following the discovery of his ex-girlfriend’s body, Fairfax police announced this week.
Joel Mosso Merino, 27, is suspected of second-degree murder for the death of Hannah Choi, 35, whose body was found in a wooded area in Piscataway Park, Maryland on March 24. Detectives from the county’s Fugitive Track and Apprehension Unit continue to investigate Merino’s whereabouts. Police last determined that Merino traveled to Georgia.
The reward, offered through Crime Solvers, comes from the family of Hannah Choi and community donations.
Choi was reported missing on March 6 after not responding to friends and missing several appointments. Detectives obtained a warrant for Merino after finding evidence in a vehicle, allegedly driven by Merino, used the night of the disappearance. A search warrant conducted on the vehicle suggested evidence that Choi was harmed prior to her disappearance.
Fairfax County police ask those with any information about Merino’s whereabouts to contact detectives at 703-246-7800, option 2. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS (866-411-8477).
