As of Wednesday morning, Virginia had 101,745 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 8,458 people hospitalized, 2,344 deaths and 1,1,267,512 people tested. Fairfax has the highest total number of cases, with 16,544 to date, with 1,941 hospitalized and 529 deaths. Arlington has reported 3,105 cases with 437 hospitalized and 135 deaths. Alexandria has 2,995 cases with 281 hospitalized and 60 deaths. Loudoun County has 5,346 cases with 352 hospitalized and 115 deaths and Prince William County has 11,748 cases (including Manassas and Manassas City), with 977 hospitalized and 205 deaths. Maryland reported 96,843 cases, Virginia reported 101,745 and Washington, DC reported 12,896. Free COVID-19 testing will be available this week, from Thursday, Aug. 13 through Saturday, Aug. 15, for those who live or work in Prince William County, Manassas or Manassas Park. All sites will accommodate drive-thru or walk-up testing. Find more information on where to go, here. (WTOP)

DC Public Schools launched “Parent University” on Tuesday evening, a platform that will provide guidance for distance learning this fall. The virtual portal will cover what online learning will look like and what tools parents will need, and also offer a chat feature for parents to communicate with hosts and ask questions. The first session debuted Tuesday, with about 1,000 families signing up to attend. (WTOP)

The Big Ten and Pac-12 college programs have canceled their 2020 football seasons as the coronavirus continues to pose a threat. President Trump condemned the decisions, saying that a fall without college football would be “tragic.” (The Washington Post)
And, in non-coronavirus-related news, Sen. Kamala D. Harris (D-Calif.) has been named presidential nominee Joe Biden’s running mate, making history as the first Black woman and first Asian American to be put on a major-party ticket. (The Washington Post)
