As of Monday morning, Virginia had 100,086 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 8,369 people hospitalized, 2,326 deaths and 1,240,339 people tested. Fairfax has the highest total number of cases, with 16,376 to date, with 1,937 hospitalized and 529 deaths. Arlington has reported 3,077 cases with 437 hospitalized and 135 deaths. Alexandria has 2,964 cases with 278 hospitalized and 60 deaths. Loudoun County has 5,280 cases with 349 hospitalized and 115 deaths and Prince William County has 11,657 cases (including Manassas and Manassas City), with 974 hospitalized and 205 deaths. The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, tallied in at 208,342 in the DMV on Monday morning. Maryland reported 95,503 cases, Virginia reported 100,086 and Washington, DC reported 12,753. Over the weekend, Virginia surpassed more than 100,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with about 25,000 being added over the course of the past three weeks. In Northern Virginia, the seven-day average is at 257, the highest it has been since June 13, when Northern Virginia was just starting to enter phase two of reopening. (Inside NoVA)

While uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus continues to loom, Northern Virginia transportation officials claim a number of preplanned, big-ticket projects will continue on, according to a recent article from Inside NoVA. At its annual State of Transportation meeting last week via Zoom, the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce discussed several upcoming projects, including the $3.7 million agreement Gov. Ralph Northam announced in December to construct a second Long Bridge over the Potomac, limited to just passenger trains to speed up and expand commuter service. There are now more than 5 million coronavirus cases reported to date in the United States. In the past 17 days alone, more than 1 million cases have been reported, meaning the tally has doubled since late June, now accounting for nearly a quarter of all cases worldwide. Plus, more than 97,000 U.S. children tested positive for the coronavirus in the last two weeks of July, according to data from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association, as parts of the country begin to open schools for the academic year.
