As of Tuesday morning, Virginia had 93,106 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 8,018 people hospitalized, 2,218 deaths and 1,151,604 people tested. Fairfax has the highest total number of cases, with 15,907 to date, with 1,903 hospitalized and 523 deaths. Arlington has reported 2,945 cases with 436 hospitalized and 136 deaths. Alexandria has 2,844 cases with 269 hospitalized and 59 deaths. Loudoun County has 5,059 cases with 339 hospitalized and 112 deaths and Prince William County has 11,100 cases (including Manassas and Manassas City), with 955 hospitalized and 200 deaths. The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, tallied in at 196,563 in the DMV on Tuesday morning. Maryland reported 91,144 cases, Virginia reported 93,106 and Washington, DC reported 12,313. The death toll has reached a total of 6,193, with 3,389 in Maryland, 2,218 in Virginia and 586 in DC. Statewide
On Aug. 3, it was recorded that Virginia added 1,324 new cases of COVID-19, the second largest single-day total since May 26, and the fourth largest since the pandemic began. In Northern Virginia specifically, 293 cases were added, while typically the seven-day average is 185. Despite an increase in cases, hospitalization statewide remained largely the same and here in Northern Virginia, only one fatality occurred overnight. (Inside Nova)

Political leaders and citizens alike are split on how to reopen schools across the globe. U.N. Secretary General Antóniio Gutteres warned on Aug. 3 that the world faces a “general catastrophe” due to school closures, according to an article from The Washington Post. Here in the U.S., as President Trump continues to demand schools open with in-person learning, several public schools have started to reopen and coronavirus cases are already being reported. In New York, hundreds of people took to the streets holding a fake coffin as a symbol of a student dead by the coronavirus, as part of a rally protesting the opening of schools. (The Washington Post)
