As of Monday morning, Virginia had 91,782 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 7,955 people hospitalized, 2,218 deaths and 1,136,568 people tested. Fairfax has the highest total number of cases, with 15,768 to date, with 1,902 hospitalized and 523 deaths. Arlington has reported 2,925 cases with 431 hospitalized and 136 deaths. Alexandria has 2,820 cases with 260 hospitalized and 59 deaths. Loudoun County has 5,034 cases with 336 hospitalized and 112 deaths and Prince William County has 11,016 cases (including Manassas and Manassas City), with 951 hospitalized and 199 deaths. The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, tallied in at 194,330 in the DMV on Monday morning. Maryland reported 90,274 cases, Virginia reported 91,782 and Washington, DC reported 12,274. The death toll has reached a total of 6,185, with 3,381 in Maryland, 2,218 in Virginia and 586 in DC. Arlington County debuted a new policy over the weekend stating that pedestrians not maintaining a 6-foot physical separation from others on streets and sidewalks could face a $100 fine. The county board adopted the emergency ordinance Friday in an attempt to combat the spread of the virus, as the county has experienced “significant crowding inside restaurants and on the public sidewalks, rights of way and adjacent public spaces where patrons gather,” according to a recent release. The state of Maryland is making progress with its coronavirus response, as all 24 of the state’s jurisdictions have met the goal of testing 10% of their populations for the coronavirus, according to a recent article from WTOP. The state’s COVD-19 positivity rate has also dropped 4.47% after it has administered 1.25 million tests, with the number of rates remaining below 5% since June 25. Despite overall progress, four jurisdictions continue to average higher positive rates, including Baltimore City, Prince George’s County, Baltimore County and Talbot County. (WTOP)

According to the White House’s epidemic response team, the U.S. has entered a “new phase” of the novel coronavirus pandemic. Physician Deborah Birx said that “what we’re seeing today is different from March and April,” as it is “extraordinarily widespread,” reading both rural and urban areas of the country. As cases in Alaska, Hawaii, Missouri, Montana and Oklahoma faced a large surge of infections over the past week, experts are beginning to fear more worrisome trends emerging in the East Coast and Midwest cities.
