As of Monday morning, Virginia had 70,670 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 6,744 people hospitalized, 1,966 deaths and 801,205 people tested. Fairfax has the highest total number of cases, with 14,482 to date, with 1,712 hospitalized and 500 deaths. Arlington has reported 2,615 cases with 425 hospitalized and 134 deaths. Alexandria has 2,455 cases with 249 hospitalized and 57 deaths. Loudoun County has 4,407 cases with 289 hospitalized and 99 deaths and Prince William County has 9,752 cases (including Manassas and Manassas City), with 859 hospitalized and 182 deaths. The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, tallied in at 154,626 in the DMV on Monday morning. Maryland reported 73,109 cases, Virginia reported 70,670 and Washington, DC reported 10,847. The death toll has reached a total of 5,722, with 3,188 in Maryland, 1,966 in Virginia and 568 in DC. Local
The rate of new COVID-19 cases in Northern Virginia is at its lowest level since the early weeks of the pandemic in March. Although elsewhere in the state, rising numbers of cases are creating a cause for concern. Northern Virginia is reporting a seven-day average of 139 new cases, as opposed to an average of 685 at the end of May. On Sunday, the region added 177 new cases, compared to 888 statewide. The Community Foundation of Northern Virginia just issued its fifth round of grants to local organizations, totaling $440,000 in aid. Of the 22 local organizations receiving the relief funds, the grants are intended to “both strengthen and empower communities of color in our region who are fighting on the front lines of not one, but two, crises: COVID-19 and racial justice,” according to InsideNoVA. New coronavirus cases are rising in every region of the United States after a weekend of record-breaking positive test rates and hospitalizations. Arizona, California, Florida, Mississippi and Texas broke records for the average daily fatalities over the weekend, as well as 20 states and Puerto Rico reporting a record-high of average new infections over the past week.
