As of Thursday morning, Virginia had 63,203 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 6,262 people hospitalized, 1,786 deaths and 655,958 people tested. Fairfax has the highest total number of cases, with 13,864 to date, with 1,622 hospitalized and 488 deaths. Arlington has reported 2,484 cases with 418 hospitalized and 132 deaths. Alexandria has 2,325 cases with 237 hospitalized and 57 deaths. Loudoun County has 4,047 cases with 279 hospitalized and 87 deaths and Prince William County has 9,175 cases (including Manassas and Manassas City), with 803 hospitalized and 168 deaths. The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, tallied in at 141,486 in the DMV on Thursday morning. Maryland reported 67,918 cases, Virginia reported 63,203 and Washington, DC reported 10,365. The death toll has reached a total of 5,416, with 3,077 in Maryland, 1,786 in Virginia and 553 in DC. Northern Virginia’s unemployment rate declined in May, following national trends as the country begins to rebound from the initial economic fallout of the global pandemic. The region’s unemployment rate dropped to 8.6%, down from 10% in April, and the state unemployment rate fell 1.8 percentage points in May, down to 9.4%. (InsideNoVA)

Washington, DC’s fireworks and Fourth of July celebration are still scheduled for this year, and the host, President Trump, is encouraging attendees to stay 6 feet apart on the National Mall. Cloth face coverings will be distributed to attendees (totaling 300,000 available) and Metro plans to run more trains to accommodate for the crowds. Flyovers by the Air Force Thunderbirds and the Navy’s Blue Angels are planned and the fireworks show will begin at 9:07 p.m. (The Washington Post)

The United States reported 52,789 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Wednesday, marking the largest single-day total since the start of the pandemic. California, Arizona, North Carolina and Georgia all broke their previous single-day records. Arizona reported a record number of coronavirus-related deaths Wednesday as intensive care units approached 90% capacity. (The Washington Post)
