Striped bass fishing season could be canceled; Fairfax County all-girls robotics team gets sponsorship

Virginia officials are considering canceling this year’s fishing season for large rockfish in the Potomoac River and Chesapeake Bay out of concern for the dwindling numbers in the species’ population. The season will begin on April 20, if not canceled. (The Washington Post)

An all-girls students’ robotics team from Fairfax County is now sponsored by Women in Defense, allowing the team to compete in the 2019 FIRST Lego League World Championship in Detroit, April 24-27. (WTOP)

The Vienna Planning Commission voted 5-2 on Wednesday to recommend the Town Council approve a mixed-use rezoning proposal at 374-380 Maple Avenue, West. The project will consist of a four-story building with underground parking, ground-floor retail and multifamily residences. (Inside NoVA)

Georgetown University students have approved a nonbinding referendum that calls for each undergraduate student to pay a fee, which will benefit the descendants of 272 slaves that the university sold in 1838. About 66% of voting students were in favor of the referendum. (NBC 4 Washington)
