Cold weather expected through Wednesday; Teen e-cigarette use up by 70 percent

Sunday’s late-season winter storm did not accumulate in a lot of snowfall for Northern Virginia, but residents can expect temperatures at or below freezing and cold air pushing into the region through Wednesday. (WTOP)

Fairfax County health officials reported a 70 percent increase in teen e-cigarette use from 2015-2017. This is in stark contrast to the 85 percent decrease in cigarette use from 2001-2017. (InsideNoVA)

Pedestrian safety improvement is coming to Rosslyn over the next year. The neighborhood’s Business Improvement District is planning a variety of strategies to make pedestrians safer. These include crash-grade planters, new pedestrian and traffic signs and converting one-way streets into two-way roads. (ARLnow)

Virginia has begun a statewide strategy that relies on Virginia taxpayers funding hundreds of millions of dollars in improvements on privately held rail lines. In exchange for government money, major freight railroads CSX and Norfolk Southern are allowing additional passenger and commuter trains to run on the companies’ tracks around the state. (The Washington Post)
