Martha Washington china discovered in Arlington; Daylight saving time ends this weekend

During an archaeological dig last year at Arlington House, archaeologist Michael Roller discovered broken pieces of china buried in the dirt. This week, it was revealed that the china was rare fragments from the “states china” that belonged to Martha Washington more than 200 years ago.

It’s the end of daylight saving time this weekend, so remember to adjust you clocks. The change could impact weekend Metro riders. Metro is reminding people that it will close Sunday morning at the first 1 a.m., not the second when the clocks change.

Police are searching for Herndon resident James Hampton, 52, who may be endangered to mental or physical health issues. Hampton was last seen Oct. 29 in the 700 block of Center Street in Herndon, is 6-foot 1-inch and may be in a Black Ford Expedition with Virginia tags VXJ-9037. Anyone with information can call 703-691-2131.

Prince William County approves a proposed $143.2 million plan that would eliminate the 206 portable trailers that are in use as classrooms at 44 schools across the county. The plan, which could begin to be implemented next year, calls for the addition of two new elementary schools and additions at middle schools.

After serving as the executive director of the Prince William County Department of Economic Development for the past six years, Jeff Kaczmarek plans to retire at the end of this year. His last day will be Jan. 1.

A bill lowering the voting age to 16 in Washington, D.C., is heading to the D.C. City Council for a vote. D.C. would become the first municipality in the country to allow minors to vote if the bill passes. The final vote is expected to take place this month.
