Inspector General says Metro improperly handled millions in spending; Pilot killed in crash at Culpeper Air Fest

In a report published last week by the Office of Inspector General, it was found that Metro failed to properly track millions of dollars in spending for supplies and services, which likely led to the overspending for certain supplies that could have been used in other areas.

Pilot Jon S. Thocker of Cincinnati was killed Friday in a crash of his aerobatic plane during the Culpeper Air Fest. Reports say that Thocker was performing aerobatic maneuvers when his plane crashed in a field. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Fairfax citizens are suing the County over the recently enacted Short-Term Lodging Zoning Ordinance Amendment, which officially went into effect on Oct. 1. Through the amendment, short-term lodging operators—many of whom use sites like Airbnb and VRBO—must apply for a $200 two-year zoning permit, while homeowners or community associations can still prohibit lodgings. A hearing is currently scheduled for Nov. 1.

Retail giant Sears has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday. The company is reported as to have been dealing with massive debt and large losses as its stores and customer services have struggled in recent years. Sears will close 142 of its stores by the end of the year.
