George Washington Memorial Parkway to see $150M rebuild; Virginia prisons ban visitors from using certain feminine hygiene products

A $150 million rebuild of the George Washington Memorial Parkway between the Capital Beltway and Sprout Road was approved. Upgrades will include improving the road in both directions, strengthening shoulders, adding stronger guardrails and more. No timeline has been released, but the project will be carried out in three phases.

Visitors to Virginia prisons will no longer be able to wear tampons or menstrual cups, state corrections officials hoping that this new rule will stop smuggling. Pads will be provided to visitors.

At Dulles International Airport yesterday, a United Airlines flight to Seattle aborted takeoff as a SkyWest Airlines plane had been given approval to cross the runway at the same time. The air traffic controller’s error was confirmed by the Federal Aviation Administration.

A 7-year-old girl from Purcellville died this past weekend after a tree fell on her and another boy, 8, while they were swinging in a hammock. The boy sustained minor injuries.

54-year-old Jose Garcia Urrutia Luna, has been charged with sexual abuse following an incident at an Alexandria daycare on Sept. 12. Fairfax County investigators are trying to find out if other there were other victims.
